Between 2010 and 2018, we aim to create 16,000 jobs for the Manchester City region. These jobs and the transformation of the economy will will demand improved and new higher-level skills. Recent improvements in performance in GCSE education results will feed through to the job market in 5 to 10 years time. However there is an urgent need to start the up-skilling now, so that local employment can be generated from the current opportunities – particularly at Kingsway and Hollinwood and in office based employment in town centres.
Skills investment must be clearly linked to either increasing productivity within businesses or individuals gaining employment particularly in the current economic climate. Providers need to be encouraged to change their approach so that occupational skills are the key driver; not nominal levels of qualifications.

To up-skill for levels 2-3, focussing initially on Kingsway and Hollinwood.

ORESA's approach is transformational
by ensuring a step change in provision that is
commensurate with the urgency and scale of
the challenge.
|
|
| |
This means lobbying for focussed
resources; and ensuring that the right
programmes are delivered locally to respond
to the demand.
|
|
| |
To encourage substantial increase in Level 4 and 5 skills.
|
|
| |
ORESA is adding value by supporting new HE
and FE provision locally; encouraging better
take up of HE and FE in the City region and
promoting joint responses across the two
local colleges. |
